Kata is moving meditation and prearranged fighting sequence.

Katas help you control your mind. When you think of something else in the kata for very long you will eventually make a mistake. Stay clear minded or stay one step ahead in the Kata in your mind. But with enough practice one should be able to speed through the Kata perfectly with no thought of the movement or mind.

1st Degree Bo Kata, Part 1

  1. Bow in Farmer Stance, Bow Staff on ground left side
  2. Slide right foot back into a left lead
  3. Having switched the Bow Staff to left side to right elbow hold
  4. Grab the end of the stick, with right hand leading
  5. Step forward into a right combat stance, strike head with circle strike with Bow Staff
  6. Rewind the circl striking the opponent in the groin
  7. Striking them twice straight down on head
  8. Rotate body face east, squat
  9. Strike them on the ankle with circle strikes
  10. Stand up strike them in the head with same circle strike
  11. Squat
  12. Repeat 9 and 10
  13. Rotate clockwise 180 degrees with stick, straight out horizonatally facing west, right lead
  14. Strike ankle
  15. Strike twice on their head
  16. Rorate 1/4 turn to facing North
  17. Ball up body strike out to face
  18. Mimic two steps
  19. Strike 3 times on head
  20. Bow Staff in right elbow
  21. Go to Farmer pose

1st Degree Bo Kata, Part 2

  1. The Soldier walk 6 movement foot work with the staff twirling around the body 360 degree style, 3 times. Start with a bow and End with a Farmers pose.

  1. From a farmers pose
  2. Lean to the left and pick up sitck with left arm
  3. Right hand goes high in air
  4. To knee in a horse stance
  5. Walk 4 steps with horse steps

  7. Land in a horse stance facing south

  9. Turn 180 degrees pivot facing east and kicking to the east
  10. Low sweep kick right leg

  12. Into 360 crescent inside crescent kick should land east

  1. Start from Farmer Pose
  2. Post the stick to the left a couple of inches
  3. Do a side slide bo staff illusion to the left
  4. Land in a natural stance
  5. Roll the staff and shoulder 3 times

  7. Do a side slide bo staff illusion to the right
  8. Land in natural stance
  9. Put staff in left arm
  10. Bow in 3 times, right hand open in middle of body
  11. Snap kick
  12. Leg Spin
  13. Left leg in front hit with hand
  14. Left leg in rear hit with hand
  15. Wide horse stance
  16. Right side pop 3 times over

On the subject of this Bokken Kata, it is a perfect work of fine workman's ship it will not need to be ever changed. It is based on Miyamoto Musashi, he used it when he killed 30 men in one day.

1st Degree Bokken Kata, Part 1

  1. Bow with Bokken on left side
  2. Pull weapons with right hand
  3. Hold out to right side pointing blade down one handed
  4. Turn 180 degrees face North, take big step out right leg
  5. Straight stab right foot, back with left
  6. Face west will block low past left foot
  7. Slide right foot back while blocking low past right left
